PRESENTING

Moor Hall Garden Rooms

KOTO Living x Nikki Heaton Studio

THE COLLABORATION

A bespoke series of large scale hand crafted and original textile artworks; created in collaboration with KOTO Living for Moor Hall Restaurant with Rooms.

Set in the picturesque grounds of Chef Mark Birchall’s two Michelin-starred epicurean destination in Aughton, Lancashire, the secluded architecturally crafted suites offer design finesse, unparalleled culinary expertise and a sustainable luxury travel experience.

The Garden Rooms at Moor Hall are nestled amidst woodland and beautifully landscaped gardens. They offer a serene retreat complete with a private hot tub and terrace. Expansive glazing invites the outdoors in, fostering a deep connection with nature for guests.

Continuing the concept of Biophilic Living - along with the inherent design of Koto spaces connecting people to nature - we further this philosophy through bespoke, tactile artwork.

Using natural and re-cycled materials from deadstock origin,  the artwork takes intense yet muted palettes inspired by botanicals.

THE DETAILS

Colour

An introspective exploration of botanicals, colour and human connection. Curated and crafted using the pigments aligning to each botanical theme.

Using the botanicals chosen by Moor Hall, each artwork celebrates the colour and inherent qualities of each living element.

This bespoke collection features colours created through the use of raw natural inks and dyes. Layer upon layer of wash, build intensity - weaving the story of botanical colour through the medium of art.

“I’ve always been enchanted by colour. I think creating through colour is simply how I show up in the world – how I ‘do’ things and definitely how I think about and ‘see’ things”

— Nikki Heaton

PROVENENCE + MATERIALS

Consciously Curated

Crafted with hands and heart: investing in honest materials and sustainable, transparent production.

Created holistically using only high quality, natural materials from sustainable sources, each artwork builds upon Koto Living values, to create a calm and vitalising experience.

Each artwork promotes re-cycled, OEKO-TEX textiles, small-batch inks, and FSC certified hardwood; all placing high values on good design, detail, craftsmanship, layering and materiality.

“I’m captivated with how things are made, along with how they make me feel - to my hands and to my heart. All these things encompass my values as a person and a designer - and therefore my artwork.”

— Nikki Heaton

THE WORKS

Welcome to the Koto Living x Nikki Heaton Studio Collaboration.

FORM

Quiet, abstract geometric forms are created by the overlap and underlapping of textile layers. Stitch and embossing further accentuate relief and composition. A combination of clean pressed edges and raw stitched details add a quiet complexity.

STRUCTURE

A 3 dimensional relief and essence is created over a deep edged canvas. Some forms are more prominent than others; whilst natural ink washes accentuate relief further. The result, a deeply structured and 3Dimensional essence on canvas.

COLOUR

Layers of raw natural ink washes in elemental hues create clean and natural shades whilst celebrating the pure and raw texture of the canvas. All colours have been conceptualised in conjunction with the KOTO brief, however some depths and tonalities will differ with natural pigments.

SEABUCKTHORN

A gentle nuance of rose, green and pastel brick shades, creating gentle harmony with terracotta - in bleached oak.

WOODRUFF
